A private cloud for NPO (Scientific Production Association) Microgen
FSUE NPO Microgen is the largest enterprise of the Russian medical industry, a leader in the development and production of medical immunobiological preparations, diagnostic and pharmaceutical products. The company's priority activity is the production of vaccines against dangerous infectious diseases, including vaccines of the National Preventive Vaccination Calendar, influenza vaccines. FSUE NPO Microgen actively cooperates with Russia's leading research centers to create and introduce into production unique developments in immunobiology and biotechnology. High qualification of employees, stringent production standards, strict multi-stage control at all stages of the production process serve as a reliable guarantee of the quality of the company's products.
The customer's business task
One of the prerequisites for a successful pharmaceutical company is a modern IT infrastructure of the organization, which allows to unite information systems of the company on one hardware resource. The customer needed to increase the availability of IT services and optimize administrative business processes and financial reporting. As a result, DEPO Computers specialists were faced with the task of a comprehensive modernization of the company's IT infrastructure with the most efficient use of the current capacities.
The need for IT modernization has been long overdue in Microgen: a federal player grew steadily, increasing its presence in the market, as a result, there were 12 branches of the company with disparate IT resources, which required optimization and consolidation into a single and flexible computing core.

After auditing and testing the IT systems of Russia's largest drug manufacturer, DEPO recommended the customer to implement a cloud approach. To solve the tasks set by the customer, it was decided to use a modular DEPO Cloud Fast 2000 system designed for server virtualization and building a private cloud within the IT infrastructure of an enterprise. The solution includes high-performance physical servers, the number of which can be increased according to the company's resource requirements, and a fault-tolerant data storage system, which ensures reliable data storage.

As part of the solution, a virtualization farm was deployed, and the software Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, a full-featured data center management system designed to work in virtual environments, was installed and configured. This software allows one to easily create virtual machines, manage them, manage resource allocation, and optimize IT infrastructure management process as a whole.

IT project results

As a result of the implementation of the solution, the company's branches were united within a single scalable and high-performance IT infrastructure that provides efficient use of resources and reliable data storage. The created private cloud platform is scalable and allows to further integrate not only all branches of the company into a single information network, but also the services operating in it.

Project results for business

The key result of the first stage of the project was an increase in the efficiency of financial and administrative business processes, as well as reduction of risks in company management. Currently, 8 out of 12 branches are operating in a single cloud environment. The solution, developed by DEPO Computers specialists, allowed minimizing the expected cost of the hardware platform modernization and reducing the amount of IT systems administration resources.

The next step in the complex modernization of IT infrastructure of NPO Microgen will be virtualization of desktops (VDI) to ensure continuous work of mobile employees and consolidation of all company branches into a single cloud information environment. These stages of long-term and strategic for Microgen project will reduce the risks in the management of the company as a whole and bring the IT infrastructure capabilities to a new quality level. In addition, the implementation of VDI will significantly increase the company's attractiveness as an employer for potential employees.
